SRBWI is program administered by non-profit organizations for the empowerment of women residing in rural areas. There are currently 42 counties in Georgia, 17 counties in Alabama, and 18 in Mississippi for a total of 77 counties served between the three states.

In 2004, the Southwest Georgia Project applied to the National Trust for Historic Preservation to conduct a workshop designed to create SRBWI’s Cultural Heritage Corridor. The Corridor will create economic opportunities by preserving, interpreting and promoting local history, culture and events throughout SRBWI’s 77 targeted counties – 42 in Georgia, 18 in Alabama, and 17 in Mississippi.
