About Us
The Southwest Georgia Project is a legacy organization that was founded in the 1960s by Civil Rights leaders, Charles and Shirley Sherrod. The organization seeks to create meaningful and just solutions that advance equity in the food and agriculture systems. We are a grassroots organization that provides technical assistance and training to underserved farmers and communities in Southwest Georgia. |
Vision
The Southwest Georgia Project and it's sister organizations (New Communities, Inc. and Charles Sherrod CDC) envisions a self-sufficient and vibrant Southwest Georgia anchored in justice and equity supported by sustainable land-based economic and social development. |
Mission
Our mission is to provide grassroots organizing and technical assistance to educate, engage, and empower marginalized communities as a way of overcoming economic and racial injustice. |

From our Founder
Over the years, we have faced challenges that tested our resilience, but we have also witnessed remarkable achievements. Through our collaborative efforts, we have empowered local leaders and historically underserved farmers, supported sustainable agriculture, and advocated for social justice. Looking ahead, we remain focused on our mission to uplift the voices of marginalized communities and create equitable opportunities for all. Thank you for your unwavering support; together, we can build a brighter future for our communities.

FOOD
Educate and provide outreach to consumers on healthy food, nutrition, and agribusiness opportunities to underserved farmers, ranchers, and landowners. We are also establishing a regional food hub to distribute local produce to the region.
FARM
We offer farmers training, networking opportunities, and market access. We offer onsite technical assistance, and training workshops on a myriad of farming practices, including techniques in soil conservation, and resource management. We offer farmers increased access to funding streams, including USDA cost-share, grant, and loan programs.
HUMAN RIGHTS
We educate and empower communities, helping them with grassroots organizing to give voice to social justice and human rights issues that matter to them. We educate and train communities on state and local policy to better access available services and economic opportunities. We assist in collective grassroots organizing to mobilize and engage young women and community leaders in ways to achieve community-driven solutions.
